Happy New Year to everyone! What a great way to kick off a new year with a new home for my career transitioning blog here at Corporate Compliance Insights. So happy for this amazing opportunity. To those of you who are new to my blog, let me give you a quick overview of who am I and what my blog is all about.
I’ve been working in the compliance and ethics Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) space for the past 12 years. In that time I managed everything from delivering eLearning courses on topics such as Code of Conduct, Data Privacy and ABAC to implementing customers onto a platform to manage and monitor their third-party program to building a mobile app product to preparing for ISO re-certification. The beauty of working for vendors is you get to work with and see what customers in various levels of program maturity, industry and geographical location do to improve their compliance and ethics programs. I tried to soak up as much knowledge and best practices I could from everyone encounter to bestow on future projects. Life was good until the COVID19 pandemic hit and I, along with countless others, was laid off.
Standing at a cross road I had to make a decision: do I stay on the vendor side or do I take this as an opportunity to make a career change and move over to the practitioner side? I choose to make the switch to practitioner. Some might say that’s the harder road. But it was something I had been thinking of doing for a while, so why not now? Getting laid off seemed a perfect opportunity to start making inroads for the switch.
So that leads me to what is my blog all about. Why should you read it? My intention is to share my personal journey here as I navigate the highs and lows of job hunting and career transitioning — in a mostly virtual world. I’ve written more than 20 posts so far, touching on topics such as continuing education and how to prepare for your first virtual career fair and job interview (Top tips: Be yourself, know the value you bring — and make sure you have good lighting!)
You can access my previous posts via my LinkedIn profile, many of which I will update and publish here in the coming weeks and months.
Thanks for joining me on the journey. Here’s to better days ahead in 2021!
