In many organizations, diversity and inclusion efforts are enterprise-wide, but a survey by legal and compliance recruiter BarkerGilmore found that most companies aren’t using broad strategies to increase the diversity of their in-house legal teams.
Still, despite the fact that about 37% of those surveyed say their companies have no strategy in place regarding DEI recruitment, the majority employed at least one strategy, while about 19% use more than one.
Here’s a look at some of the survey’s key findings:
- Intentional recruiting is the most common strategy, cited by 23% of respondents.
- 23% said their searches must include at least one candidate from an underrepresented group.
- 7% ensure diversity on the search committee, and another 7% network with minority organizations in their searches.
BarkerGilmore’s survey was conducted online in November 2022 and included 88 people working as general counsel or managing counsel at organizations across the U.S.
